3-Part Series: Becoming an Anti-Racist Educator
Multiple Days (see below)
2:00pm – 4:00pm
The CEILS Becoming an Anti-racist Educator Conversation Series reflects and creates space for discussion of one’s own racial identity development and how racial identity and other social identities impact our learning environments. With colleagues, participants in these discussions will spend intentional time on student-centered, inclusive and equitable, and anti-racist action strategies that can be implemented in the classroom and laboratory learning environments to work against the impacts of racism.
These workshops will be in-person, interactive 2 hour sessions with didactics and small group discussions. Each session builds on the content and experience of the previous session, therefore we ask that you attend all 3 sessions. Please see the workshop descriptions below:
- Part 1 – Inside work: Reflecting and Exploring Identity, Privilege, Definitions of race, racism and antiracism. Offered Monday, Oct 17 and Tuesday, Oct. 18th (pick one).
- Part 2 – Outside work: Identifying inclusive and antiracist pedagogy and strategies in the classroom, tools and practice interrupting microaggressions. Offered Monday, Oct. 24 or Tuesday, Oct. 25th (pick one).
- Part 3 – Discuss and identify strategies to implement and create a more anti-racist climate, apply to an action plan to take anti-racist action in your learning environment, get feedback from colleagues. Offered Monday, Oct 31st or Tuesday, Nov. 1st (pick one).
All sessions take place from 2-4pm.
