Meet Our Team

Greetings, UCLA Instructional Community!

Portrait of a smiling woman with shoulder-length light brown hair, wearing a yellow patterned top and delicate necklace, facing the camera in an outdoor setting.

Our team at UCLA’s Center for Education Innovation and Learning in the Sciences is eager to connect with you! As a STEM Teaching and Learning Center, our role is to synthesize STEM education literature and translate it into programs and practices that you can easily adopt in your classroom. Like you, each of us holds a PhD in a variety of Life and Physical Science disciplines, and we apply our disciplinary knowledge of research and research methods to teaching practices, assessment, and evaluation. We are your colleagues and partners (and hopefully friends!) in your journey to hone your craft as practitioners of teaching excellence.

We take your professional development seriously!

Whether you are interested in designing equitable assessments, have questions about or need help using new educational technology, want to incorporate more active learning, cultivate an inclusive approach to teaching, support TAs’ effective facilitation of discussions and labs, or redesign or create a new course (and much more!), we are here to talk it through with you.

We are also available to work directly with your department to support the 8-year review process, look at data to reduce equity gaps, run workshops tailored to your department’s interests, or be available at a faculty meeting to answer questions or facilitate a discussion about teaching or mentoring.

Department Chairs and leadership can reach out to me directly to discuss your departmental needs. General inquiries can also be sent to our team email at media@ceils.ucla.edu, or you can directly email a team member to ask specific questions related to their expertise or schedule a time to meet.

I hope to see you at a CEILS event soon!

Sincerely,

Rachel Kennison, MSW, PhD
