The Center for Community College Partnerships, UCLA Division of Life Sciences, and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Alfred Herrera and Tracy Johnson are hosting the second annual UCLA-Community College Summit entitled Building a Transfer Sending and Transfer Receptive Culture in STEM. Funded by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, this summit is an opportunity to bring together a community of stakeholders to discuss ways in which UCLA and our local community college partners can work together to support students who are interested in or have matriculated to the life sciences at UCLA.
This summit provides an opportunity to open the lines of communication between our campuses, discuss the current state of UCLA preparation of community college transfers and, more importantly, hear from all stakeholders about the important work taking place on community college campuses and understand better how we can support this work. We will discuss practices from both UCLA and community college partners that have a positive impact on transfer students aspiring to study in the life sciences. We intend to produce an action plan at the conclusion of our meeting to serve as a roadmap for moving forward to support community college students.
