Join us for the CEILS Annual Faculty Workshop on Best Equitable Practices in Teaching, leading off with a special welcome from the Deans of Life and Physical Sciences. This 2-day workshop will help you prepare for Fall 2021 classes by providing you with equitable teaching strategies that maximize success for all students.
As the beginning of the school year approaches, the anticipation of the transition back to in person teaching is on all of our minds. Recognizing that going back into the classroom with masks may be accompanied by both excitement and anxiety. CEILS is reframing our resources to better support you during this transition and specifically address concerns such as wearing a mask while teaching, students testing positive and unable to come to class, and the need to record or live stream lectures. A special in person session on the 2nd day of the workshop, will specifically address these topics. While this session is at capacity in person, CEILS is live streaming the event, giving you the opportunity to see how live streaming via zoom works. As always, all associated materials will be made available to everyone, even if you cannot attend in person or on zoom.
This workshop is appropriate for everyone—new or veteran teachers—interested in learning more about equitable teaching practices based on education research. We especially encourage instructors who either are relatively new to college teaching or who have instructional responsibilities in large enrollment gateway courses for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) majors.
Being able to reconnect with colleagues and share your thoughts and ideas is an excellent way to decrease the stress and uncertainty we all face with the transition back to in person teaching. In an effort to strengthen our teaching community, CEILS is having an in person lunch and happy hour, both of which will be held outside. You are welcome to join these in person outdoor events, with a mask on, as your level of comfort dictates.
